Quality characteristics
- Dark-green leaves
- Straight shape
- ‘White’ stem length at least 15 cm. For young leeks this is 10 cm, and 6 cm at the beginning of the season
- Leaf length at least 20 cm (without leaves: 5 cm of opened green leaves)
- No deformation on the white part of the stem
- No damage
- Either without roots, preserving the root plate
- Or with cleaned roots
Shelf life
Flandria leeks should be stored at 2-3 °C and a RH of 90-95%.
Grading
Flandria leeks are classified according to autumn and winter leeks
– loose: -2 cm, 2-3 cm, 2-4 cm, 3-4 cm, 3-5 cm, > 4 cm
– bunches (flat): > 1.1 kg, > 1.3 kg, > 1.5 kg
– bunches (round): > 700 g, > 900 g, > 1 kg
– bags: 3 kg, 5 kg
young leeks (until mid-August)
– loose: 2-3 cm, 3-4 cm, 2-4 cm, 3-5 cm, > 4 cm
– bunches (flat): > 900 g, > 1.1 kg, > 1.3 kg, > 1.5 kg
– bunches (round): 15-20-25 bunches per crate,
> 300 g, > 400 g, > 500 g, > 700 g, > 900 g or > 1 kg
